INVITATION TO ATTEND A VIRTUAL AWARENESS WORKSHOP ON PROLIFERATION FINANCING AND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TARGETED FINANCIAL SANCTIONS
- The above subject matter refers.
- Recommendation 7 of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) explains the importance of countries implementing targeted financial sanctions to comply with the UNSC resolutions relating to prevention, suppression and disruption of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and its financing. Botswana is a party to the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons of the United Nations as set out in Section 3 of the Nuclear Weapons Prohibition Act, 2018. The act prohibits specified parties and accountable institutions from engaging in the acts of proliferation and its financing.
- In light of the above, NBFIRA, together with the Chemical, Biological, Nuclear and Radiological Weapons Management Authority, seek to raise awareness to entities on Proliferation financing and the implementation of targeted financial sanctions as per the Counter Terrorism (Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions) Regulations, 2020.
