Commencement of the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority Act, 2023

Members of the public are informed that the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) Act, 2023 (the Act) commenced on January 15, 2024. 

The commencement follows the Act’s amendment by the Parliament of Botswana on November 13, 2023. New provisions have been added to cater for licensing of non-bank financial institutions, controllers / key persons’ approvals, supervision and regulation of non-bank financial institutions as well as supervision of financial conglomerates among others. The NBFIRA Act, 2023 and a summary of changes are accessible on the NBFIRA website at: www.nbfira.org.bw.  

Members of the public affected by the changes should ensure full compliance with the Act at all times.
