NBFIRA participates at the Young Visionaries Empire Global Money week Campaign
The Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) participated in the 2018 Global Money Week, which is an annual financial awareness campaign designed to inspire children and the youth to learn about financial matters, its impact on livelihoods and entrepreneurship skills.
The Authority participated in an engagement session held in at Kgale Hill Junior Secondary School on the 29th of March, 2019. The event which was held under the theme “Understanding Botswana’s Financial Sector”, attracted sixty (60) students from a total of six schools from Gaborone. The participating students were from four (4) Primary Schools (Tlhabologo, Boswa, Tshiamo, and St. Joseph’s Primary Schools), and two (2) Junior Secondary Schools (Kgale Hill Junior Secondary School, and Botlhale International School).
During the interactive event, The Authority sensitized the children on its role as the regulator and supervisor of Non-Bank Financial Institutions, as well as its primary objective of fostering fairness and orderliness of the regulated financial institutions, as well as ensuring their financial safety and soundness. Students were also taught about the Authority’s mandate and its role in Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism & Proliferation (AML/CFTP).
The Authority remains committed to cultivating financial awareness in children and the youth and inspiring them to make responsible and informed financial decisions as they grow.
